JOAQUIN CASTILLO
Photographer (New York)
Joaquin Castillo is a Mexican-born, New York–based artist whose primary medium is photography. His creative practice also spans moving image, creative direction, styling, and graphic design. Joaquin began collaborating with fashion clients in Mexico at an early age, gaining formative hands-on industry experience that shaped his strong visual identity and auteur-like sensibility.
Characterised by a refined use of lighting, tone, and immersive world-building, Joaquin’s work is immediately recognisable. His expansive portfolio reveals a cohesive artistic vision and attention to detail—reflected in the striking characters and recurring motifs.
Joaquin’s work is a deeply personal form of self expression — a way to channel his inner world. Drawing inspiration from his spirituality and connection to a higher power, Joaquin uses his work as a visual expression of his current state of being. By translating his experiences and emotions into a story, Joaquin explores recurring themes of his life such as hope, evolution, manifestation and fantasy. His cinematic approach connects each image to a bigger story, with characters and moods that evolve intuitively and emotionally.
Since moving to New York, Joaquin has developed a strong connection to the city's energy and its community. He’s drawn to the sense of possibility the city brings, and the collective hopes and dreams of the people around him. The city also informs his attitude towards working with the tools that are available and utilising the collective resources the city has to offer in his pursuit to master his craft.
